PVTIME – Solar power has emerged as the primary source of new electricity capacity in the United States. It is set to surpass coal in terms of total installed capacity by the end of 2026, with an estimated 70GW of additional solar capacity expected to be added between 2026 and 2027. This would represent a 49% increase on the country’s total solar installed capacity at the end of 2025.

This information was shared in a post on the X social media platform on 14 February and was subsequently reposted by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who stated that solar power will become the dominant source of electricity generation in the future.
