PVTIME – Shenzhen S.C. New Energy Technology Corporation has announced that its Changzhou base has successfully developed a 50μm-thick p-type HJT cell on its Heterojunction (HJT) + Perovskite pilot verification platform. This achievement establishes a mature technological route for HJT/perovskite tandem cells.

This breakthrough fills the domestic gap in mass production technology for ultra-thin HJT space cells, accelerating China’s space PV industry from R&D to commercial application through a dual-engine model of ‘implementable manufacturing + platform-based verification’.
Designed to meet the specific requirements of PV modules in extreme space environments, S.C.’s 50µm p-type HJT space cell is over 40% lighter than traditional gallium arsenide satellite cells, significantly reducing rocket launch costs and aligning with the core objective of commercial aerospace: cost reduction and improved efficiency. Optimised thinning processes ensure high quality and low damage, supported by upgraded chemical thinning and texturing etching technologies.
This achievement reflects S.C.’s comprehensive process capabilities. Using independently developed PECVD and PVD core equipment, the company has developed space-adapted amorphous silicon passivation layers, doped layers, and high-stability transparent conductive films, ensuring stable electrical performance under space radiation. Automated production lines with custom components solve the challenges of manufacturing ultra-thin cells, enabling large-scale production.
S.C.’s pilot platform covers the entire R&D process, enabling customers to complete design, process matching and failure analysis in one place. The company is also developing p-type TOPCon and BC cell technologies, as well as planning a space PV fatigue laboratory, with the aim of building a full closed-loop support system.
Dr Sheng Jiang, S.C.’s head of technology, noted that the breakthrough embodies the company’s dual-engine model and that there are plans to cooperate with aerospace partners to promote independent space energy technology. According to industry analysis, this breakthrough breaks foreign technological monopolies and provides a replicable technology transformation path to accelerate commercialisation.
