Swift Solar & Plenitude Pilot Perovskite Tandem Solar Tech

PVTIME – On 24 November 2025, US perovskite tandem solar specialist Swift Solar announced a partnership with Plenitude, the renewable energy arm of Italian energy giant Eni, to run long term utility scale power supply pilot tests. The collaboration seeks to generate critical validation data to support the commercialisation of perovskite technology.

Plenitude will conduct field trials of Swift Solar’s perovskite tandem technology at its US solar farm facilities, with a focus on verifying performance stability and durability under large-scale operational conditions. The subsidiary is working towards a 2030 target of installing 15GW of renewable energy, and this pilot is a key part of its technology strategy.

Swift Solar’s perovskite/crystalline silicon tandem technology is expected to deliver module efficiency above 28%, which would see it significantly outperform traditional solar panels, whose efficiency ranges from 20% to 24%. It can also increase power output by 40% for the same land area.

Joel Jean, Swift Solar’s CEO and co-founder, noted that this advantage is especially valuable given the surging power demands driven by AI data centres, as it enables maximum energy generation from limited land while cutting installation costs.

He added that large developers base pilot decisions on clear commercial potential, reflecting the industry’s recognition of the potential of next-generation solar technology. Industry observers suggest that successful trials could accelerate the commercial rollout of perovskite tandem technology, providing a new avenue for global renewable energy growth.
