PVTIME – Infinity Power and Hassan Allam Utilities Energy Platform have officially entered into a cooperation agreement with Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company. The aim of the agreement is to jointly develop a 1.2GW solar power project paired with 720MWh of battery energy storage capacity.

The project will be implemented in two phases across distinct regions of Egypt. Phase one involves the construction of a 200MW solar plant in Benban, complemented by a 120MWh energy storage system, with commercial operation scheduled for Q3 2026. Phase two will see the delivery of a large-scale 1GW solar facility in Minya, equipped with 600MWh of storage, with commissioning targeted for Q3 2027. Once operational, the two projects will increase Egypt’s renewable energy generation capacity significantly and leverage their large-scale storage components to effectively boost the power system’s peak-shaving capabilities and operational stability.
Infinity Power is a joint venture between Egypt’s Infinity and the UAE’s Masdar, with extensive experience in renewable energy project development. Meanwhile, Hassan Allam Utilities Energy Platform is co-owned by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and currently manages a 2.3GW portfolio of renewable energy projects under construction, alongside a 1.65GW pipeline of projects spanning solar, wind and other sectors, forming a well-rounded industrial layout.
The initiative is closely aligned with Egypt’s national energy development strategy. The Egyptian government has set ambitious targets to increase the share of renewable energy in its total energy mix. These targets include a 42% share by 2030 and an ambitious further elevation to 65% by 2040. The development of this 1.2GW solar-storage project is set to play a pivotal role in achieving these strategic objectives.
