PVTIME – Turkey’s Energy Minister, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced that the UAE-based renewable energy developer Masdar is in the final stages of agreeing a deal to develop a 1.1GW solar project with energy storage in Turkey.

This announcement follows a visit to Turkey by a UAE delegation led by Masdar’s CEO, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi. The purpose of the delegation’s visit was to explore joint investment opportunities in renewable energy and energy storage. Talks focused on four key areas: solar power generation, onshore and offshore wind, pumped hydro storage, and technology transfer, with the aim of shaping a comprehensive collaboration framework.
The two parties have now progressed to the final stage of a $1 billion project. Scheduled for the Bor district of Niğde Province in central Turkey, the project will comprise a 1,100MW solar plant with integrated energy storage.
Talks also covered other potential investments, including an offshore wind farm, a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line, and a pumped hydro storage facility.
