Lyten Acquires Northvolt’s European Flagship Energy Storage Factory

PVTIME – On 4 July, California-based Lyten confirmed its acquisition of Northvolt’s battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility in Gdańsk, Poland. The 25,000-square-metre site is Europe’s largest dedicated energy storage production hub. It operates at an annual capacity of 6GWh, with the potential to scale up to 10GWh. It also holds a solid order pipeline extending to 2026.

Lyten plans to integrate its lithium-sulfur battery technology into the plant’s production processes, leveraging Poland’s engineering expertise to enhance its global presence. This follows Northvolt’s bankruptcy earlier this year, which was linked to ongoing supply chain disruptions that impaired its operations.

Lyten has stated that this acquisition strengthens its position in the European market by combining state-of-the-art manufacturing infrastructure with its cutting-edge battery technology. The company has also revealed plans to provide reliable, scalable energy storage solutions to meet the increasing global demand, leveraging the facility’s existing capabilities and order backlog.

This acquisition is Lyten’s first major expansion into Europe and aligns with its strategy to commercialise lithium-sulfur technology, which is praised for its higher energy density and reduced reliance on critical minerals, in key international markets.
