PVTIME – Malaysia has announced significant cuts to the surcharge for its Green Electricity Tariff (GET), which will come into effect on 1 July 2025. In some cases, reductions will reach up to 80%. This initiative is part of efforts to accelerate the transition to clean energy and boost regional competitiveness. It includes the launch of the GET GreenPath initiative for large users.

A key reform is the overhaul of pricing, with tiered rates based on user type being replaced by a unified structure tied to contract length. Previously, households and low-voltage users were charged 10 sen per kWh, while medium-to-high voltage users were charged 20 sen — a figure which peaked at 21.8 sen in 2023. Under the new system, all users will pay 5 sen per kWh for a one-year contract, 4 sen for a two-year contract, and 3 sen for a three-year contract.
The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation has stated that these changes are intended to encourage the purchase of green electricity for homes and businesses by offering more affordable and flexible options.
