1GW Bila Solar US PV Module Factory Commissions

PVTIME – Bila Solar, headquartered in Singapore, has announced the commissioning of its new manufacturing plant in Indianapolis, Indiana, launching domestic production of solar modules. This realises the company’s pledge from 2023 to build a site with an annual capacity of 1GW for advanced, glass-free and frame-free panels.

Now operational, the plant produces Bila’s patented ultra-lightweight modules and 550W double-glass models which weigh 30% less and are 95% thinner than traditional designs. This makes them suitable for use on low-load commercial rooftops, for solar vehicle integration, and for off-grid systems. As it uses US-manufactured cells, the production line qualifies for a 10% federal tax credit bonus.

Initial production targets 300MW per year for ground-mounted and carport systems, with the capacity to scale up to 1GW. ‘Federal policies directly enabled this facility,’ said Bila’s VP, who also noted policy uncertainty as a key challenge. ‘Tax credit changes could raise costs and impact competitiveness.’

Stable policies remain critical to sustaining investment and growth momentum in the US clean energy sector.
