AIKO Empowers Brunel Solar Team for 2025 World Solar Challenge

PVTIME – AIKO, a global leader in solar technology and the inventor of N-Type ABC cell technology, has announced the renewal of its partnership with the Brunel Solar Team for the 2025 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge (BWSC) in Australia. The team will utilise AIKO’s advanced solar solutions, including mass-produced N-Type ABC cells with 27.2% efficiency, to support their participation in one of the world’s most demanding solar vehicle races.

This follows their collaboration at the 2024 Sasol Solar Challenge in South Africa, where AIKO’s technology helped the Brunel Solar Team overcome extreme climatic and topographical challenges to secure a podium finish. The Brunel Solar Team, a seven-time World Solar Challenge champion, has long been at the forefront of solar racing innovation, and this renewed alliance reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and engineering excellence.

Martijn Boonen, an electrical engineer at the Brunel Solar Team, noted that AIKO’s N-type ABC cells provide a critical competitive advantage. With their industry-leading efficiency and reliability — including low temperature coefficients and anti-micro-crack performance — these cells are ideally suited to the 3,000-kilometre Darwin-to-Adelaide route, where every watt of energy is essential.

Jessica Zhang, Chief Marketing Officer of AIKO, emphasised the strategic alignment of the partnership. Brunel embodies the spirit of solar innovation: precision, resilience and forward thinking. This collaboration, founded on mutual respect, showcases how ABC technology can drive zero-carbon mobility solutions, with AIKO’s Australian team providing ongoing support throughout the campaign.

AIKO’s pioneering two-stage manufacturing process for ABC cells maximises energy extraction within the race’s strict 4–6 m² solar area limit. The technology’s superior low-light response and thermal stability ensure consistent performance across Australia’s diverse climatic zones, and its anti-crack resilience can withstand the rigours of long-distance travel.
