6GW Saudi Expansion Drives GameChange’s Mideast Push

PVTIME – US-based solar tracker manufacturer GameChange Solar has announced plans to double the capacity of its Saudi Arabian module factory to 6GW. This is driven by surging demand for its Genius Tracker systems in large-scale utility projects.

The expansion, which is scheduled for completion by September, follows the company’s year-on-year growth of 55% in 2023, when it secured a 12% share of the global solar tracker market. ‘This move reflects the exponential growth in demand in Saudi Arabia and our readiness to support major upcoming projects like the 2.1GW Sudair Solar Park,’ said Jason Wang, VP for China and Southeast Asia.

While GameChange Solar partnered with the Chinese company Jiangsu Zhenjiang New Energy to establish the original plant, the firm declined to confirm whether this collaboration would continue for the expansion. This Saudi investment marks a shift away from GameChange’s traditional focus on domestic manufacturing in the US, where capacity reached 36GW in 2024 in order to maximise the benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act’s 45X tax credits.

However, uncertainties in US policy have prompted this change: last month, the House of Representatives passed a bill proposing cuts to renewable energy tax credits, including the 45X scheme, which is set to be phased out by 2032. ‘These shifts are driving us to diversify our manufacturing hubs,’ a spokesperson noted, adding that the Saudi plant would complement, rather than replace, its American operations. This expansion will enable GameChange to compete in the Middle East, where solar installations are expected to increase by 28% annually until 2030.
