Intersolar Europe 2025: A Glimpse into the Future of PV and Energy Storage

PVTIME – Intersolar Europe 2025, held in the vibrant city of Munich, Germany, once again served as the global epicentre for the solar and energy storage industries. With anticipation in the air, over 110,000 attendees from around the world flocked to the event. The exhibition floor was a dazzling display of the latest technologies and products, representing the cutting edge of photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage advancements. Here we highlight some of the most notable storage and inverter offerings from the world’s leading companies.

CATL, a global leader in battery technology, has launched what it claims is the world’s first 9MWh energy storage system. Consisting of two 4.5MWh cabinets stacked vertically, it represents a novel design departure from the traditional mirror placement approach.

While the double-layer stacking concept simplifies the physical footprint, it has long been a contentious issue within the industry. Challenges with fire safety compliance, site inspections and project financing have made such designs unpopular with industry stakeholders. However, the system’s outstanding feature is its noise level of less than 65 decibels, a significant advantage for urban deployments. As the energy storage market evolves, it remains to be seen whether this innovative but controversial solution will overcome industry concerns and gain widespread acceptance.

GoodWe has launched a new range of solar-plus-storage solutions with a focus on smart, safe and flexible features.

For residential users, the ESA system (3-10 kW / 5-48 kWh) from the EcoSmart Home range stands out. Its all-in-one architecture is a compact, stylish and powerful option for homeowners seeking energy independence. The system’s built-in battery optimiser allows for easy expansion, increasing storage as needed.

In the commercial sector, GoodWe has expanded its portfolio. The ET50 hybrid inverter paired with the BAT100kWh battery cabinet and the new All-in-One ESA 125kW / 261kWh C&I system are key offerings. These commercial energy storage systems support microgrids, retrofits and backup power, while allowing MW capacity growth. They’re designed to help businesses reduce costs, improve resilience and secure long-term returns.

Meanwhile, the 330kW TerraMax™ inverter breaks new ground. It enables non-standard and uneven terrains to become viable and profitable PV sites, expanding opportunities within the C&I solar market.

Enphase, a global energy technology leader and leading provider of microinverter-based systems, is launching the IQ Balcony Solar System in Germany.

Designed for plug-and-play installation, the system enables apartment dwellers and those with limited roof space to generate clean energy from balconies, patios and small outdoor areas. It’s also suitable for off-grid scenarios such as mountain cabins and campsites. Consisting of Enphase IQ8HC microinverters, IQ Balcony Gateway and other components, it offers several key features.

It’s easy to use with DIY installation via the Enphase app. The system switches between grid-tied and off-grid modes, ensuring power during outages or in remote areas. It’s scalable for future expansion and has built-in Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity with a 5-year data plan. Both the microinverters (IP67 rated) and the gateway (IP65 rated, 5 year warranty) offer high reliability.

Risen Energy has launched three new product ranges, demonstrating its commitment to the solar-storage integration business.

The star of the range is the Risen Stack modular energy storage system. With a single unit capacity ranging from 48 kWh to 120 kWh, it is suitable for both residential and commercial applications. Its modular design allows it to adapt quickly, and with a one-click setup, it can be deployed in less than five minutes, providing backup power around the clock. Six layers of battery protection, multiple safety mechanisms and an IP65 rated, C4 classified power module ensure safety and durability.

In addition to the Risen Stack, Risen Energy also introduced the Luvit microinverter and the Gurap string inverter, which power residential, commercial and industrial rooftop solar – storage power plants. For large-scale power plants, the company’s solar storage solutions integrate efficient Hyperion Pro heterojunction modules with eFlex 836kWh and eTron 5MWh liquid cooled energy storage systems, providing high efficiency, safety and environmental adaptability for sustainable, low-carbon energy solutions.

APsystems made a notable appearance at the event with its leading all-scenario solar storage solutions, showcasing a range of cutting-edge products.

The star product, the EZHI Hybrid Micro Inverter, is characterised by its compact design and powerful performance. Directly connected to PV modules and energy storage batteries, it combines power generation and storage functions with a maximum output of 1200W. Ideal for limited spaces such as balconies, it provides efficient power generation and flexible power distribution.

For commercial and industrial (C&I) scenarios, the Ocean Series liquid-cooled string energy storage system offers customisable configurations based on capacity requirements. With liquid cooling, multiple protection systems and intelligent monitoring, it ensures safe, stable and efficient two-way power conversion. In the residential segment, APsystems offers a range of power – rated solar storage solutions. Products such as the 20A high current DS3 and QT2 microinverters, together with the ELS – 5K and ELT – 12 energy storage inverters and batteries, form an AC coupled microinverter system. This system has off-grid capabilities, providing continuous power to loads during blackouts and solving the challenges of providing green power to homes.

Sineng Electric has unveiled its new generation home solar storage solution that redefines home energy management with five key benefits, offering European households a safer, more efficient and smarter green energy experience.

Safety comes first. Each battery pack is built to automotive standards and contains six 335Ah high capacity cells.
