5.9 Billion Yuan! Gree Participates in Hongjun’s High-Efficiency Solar Cell Project

PVTIME – The Hongjun high-efficiency solar cell production base was launched on 13 April 2023 in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, China, with a total investment of 5.9 billion yuan.

The project was initiated by a subsidiary of Zhuhai Gree Group Co Ltd, a leading home appliance manufacturer, Zhuhai Hongjun New Energy Co Ltd and the local government. It is planned to produce 7.2GW of solar cells and 5GW of modules per year when completed in three phases. It is expected to generate an annual output value of approximately 11.8 billion yuan, annual tax revenue of approximately 500 million yuan and nearly 1,900 new jobs when fully operational in 2025.

The project is designed to be the world’s leading production base for 1GW HJT cells as well as a high-tech R&D centre, recruiting a team of experts, including more than 70 Masters and 30 PhDs, to work with Cambridge University’s Perovskite Research Laboratory to jointly develop the stacking technology of HJT and Perovskite cells.

The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2023 and the whole project by the end of 2025. It aims to promote Zhuhai City as a photovoltaic capital and a national demonstration city for green, low-carbon development.
