Suntech Announces the Addition of 500 MW PV Cell and Module Capacity in Indonesia, Enhances Us Market Coverage

PVTIME– Recently, Suntech announced that its 500MW high-efficiency integrated PV cell and module manufacturing project in Indonesia is now operational and has met the requirements of both the American and Indonesian markets. Solar modules manufactured from the Indonesian factory are now available for customers in the US.

As the first foreign enterprise with local plant construction qualifications in Indonesia,Suntech’s local plant has the capacity to produce 500MW of cells and 500 MW of modules annually. The production lines are compatible with multi-busbar modules sized from 158mm to 166mm to 182mm. The new production lines are supported by all mainstream product technologies such as mono PERC half-cell bifacial modules and 78 -cell large-sized modules, mass producing high power and high-performance module products over 450W. The production capacity for this plant will be expanded in steps, estimated to be up to 1 GW by the end of 2020.

Suntech’s Indonesian plant, located on Batam Island, is only 30 nautical miles away from Singapore. With geographical advantages, its logistics cost is equal to that of other Southeast countries. This plant also follows Suntech’s stringent QC system regulations. Despite the circumstances where the cost competition has become increasingly severe, Suntech insists on using reliable materials and advanced manufacturing processes to build high quality solar power modules. The products will also be supplied to the American market, boosting Suntech’s continuous exploration of the American market.

“Suntech has shipped 3GW of modules to the US market in the last 10 years. Due to manufacturing limitations in Southeast Asian countries, we didn’t fulfill our US customers’ strong demand.”said Vincent Cao, Vice President of Suntech. “With the added new capacity from our Indonesian factory, we will continue to support the US market and boost our sales in the US.” Gao added.

In recent months, Suntech has achieved a total module capacity of 9.5GW with its expansion of plants in Wuxi and Changzhou in China. The addition of the Indonesian plant has made the annual capacity breakthrough 10GW. In the future, Suntech will improve the industrial chain cooperation and continue to integrate advantages in management, technology, capital, channels, and brands.
