US Extends Tariff Exemptions Under Section 301 Investigation Through 31 August

PVTIME – The Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) has announced an extension of tariff exemptions under its Section 301 investigation into China’s technology transfer, IP, and innovation policies. The exemptions, originally due to expire on 31 May 2025, will now remain in place until 31 August 2025.

This decision, announced on 31 May, forms part of the USTR’s periodic review of trade measures targeting alleged unfair practices. The extension provides temporary relief for businesses affected by tariffs first imposed in 2018, reflecting ongoing assessments of their impact on US economic interests.

Section 301 tariffs have been a key flashpoint in US-China trade relations for years. The latest move offers stakeholders an additional three months to adapt, with the USTR noting further reviews may follow based on market conditions.
