PVTIME – United Renewable Energy (URE), a solar enterprise in Taiwan, has announced plans to lay off over 100 employees while phasing out aging production lines. The cuts, affecting approximately 10% of its workforce, will conclude by Q4 this year, with the company confirming compliance with legal notification procedures.

Formerly known as Neo Solar Power, URE merged with Gintech and Solartech in 2018 to become the largest PV manufacturer in Taiwan.
URE cited market data showing TOPCon solar modules have overtaken PERC products as the industry’s dominant technology. In response, the firm will gradually shutter its PERC solar cell line at the Miaoli County plant, which has reached the end of its lifecycle. TOPCon production will be consolidated at URE’s Tainan facility, while existing module manufacturing continues. The company plans to launch all-black modules starting Q3 2025.
Expanding beyond traditional PV, URE is positioning itself as an integrated energy solutions provider, with local reports noting its foray into energy storage. The strategic pivot aims to cover a full value chain: module manufacturing, project development, energy storage systems, maintenance services, and power sales.
