PVTIME – During the recent G20 Energy Meeting in South Africa, Sharif Al Olama, the UAE’s Deputy Minister of Energy and Infrastructure for Energy and Petroleum Affairs, held a series of high-level bilateral talks with representatives from Singapore, Ireland, Germany, Indonesia and other countries. The discussions focused on energy transition, clean hydrogen, low-emission technologies and energy efficiency. All parties agreed to strengthen international collaboration to accelerate the development of a global low-carbon energy system.

Talks with Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (part of the Ministry of Trade and Industry) centred on exploring cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, power interconnection and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Olama raised the possibility of Singapore joining the UAE-launched Global Energy Efficiency Alliance (GEEA), which would increase the alliance’s international influence and support regional improvements in energy efficiency.
Meetings with Ireland’s delegation focused on renewable energy, clean technology, and cooperation in the hydrogen value chain. The two sides mapped out potential areas of collaboration and coordinated in advance for the UAE-Ireland Joint Economic Committee meeting in December, establishing a foundation for future communication and practical work.
Stefan Wenzel, Parliamentary State Secretary at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, and Olama exchanged views on industrial decarbonisation, developing the hydrogen supply chain and researching clean technology. Olama stressed the need to deepen practical cooperation under existing frameworks in order to address the challenges of reducing industrial emissions and driving the large-scale application of low-carbon technologies.
Discussions with Eniya Listiani Dewi, Indonesia’s Director-General of New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, focused on practical cooperation, including the development of building energy efficiency standards, the refinement of performance criteria, and the implementation of incentive and compliance schemes. Olama invited Indonesia to join the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance (GEEA), with the aim of integrating resources via the alliance to boost regional energy sustainability.
These talks are part of the UAE’s efforts to deliver the UAE Consensus and Sustainable Development Goals. By strengthening energy security cooperation and expanding low-carbon investment, the UAE is upgrading global energy partnerships to support the world’s shift to a clean, secure, low-emission energy system, thereby demonstrating its proactive role and responsibility in the field of international sustainable energy.
