LONGi Leads Industry Initiative to Elevate PV Quality & Testing Standards

PVTIME – On 12 June, during SNEC 2025, LONGi the PV giant unveiled a landmark initiative at its stand, bringing together eight leading certification and testing bodies to set new standards for the PV industry. The coalition, comprising the China Quality Certification Centre (CQC), the National Institute of Metrology (NIM), the National Solar PV Product Quality Inspection Centre, the Huadian Electric Power Research Institute, the Beijing Jianheng Certification Centre, TÜV Rheinland and TÜV SÜD, unveiled the Initiative for Enhancing Full-Life Cycle Quality and Testing Standards in the PV Industry for the All-Scenario Era. This initiative charts a breakthrough path for the sector’s transition from scale expansion to high-quality development.

Core objectives of the initiative:

Value Regression: The initiative champions technological autonomy and original Chinese innovations, rejecting copycat approaches and price wars based on low quality to establish PV’s role as a primary energy source.

Standards Leadership: Emphasising a ‘standards-first’ approach, the coalition aims to establish stricter quality benchmarks and testing protocols. Guided by global climatic data, the coalition promotes a differentiated, full-life-cycle reliability assessment system to ensure modules deliver safe and stable performance throughout their operational lifespan.

Quality Revolution for Power Plants: Advocating for comprehensive quality control, the initiative proposes a certified framework that covers design, construction, and O&M, with the aim of eliminating substandard projects. It encourages the adoption of advanced, high-performance products to ensure the long-term viability of power plants.

Ecosystem co-creation: By fostering collaboration across the value chain — from R&D to manufacturing and services — the initiative aims to develop a thriving market ecosystem and transform the industry from a ‘manufacturing hub’ into a ‘technological innovation frontier’.

Post-Launch Certification Programme

Following the launch of the initiative, CQC, NIM and LONGi jointly introduced the ‘Standardised Efficiency Grading Certification for PV Modules’. This programme establishes a unified, scientific certification system to regulate the market, boost technological advancement, and enhance the global competitiveness of high-efficiency PV modules in China.
