Ireland Confirms €1800 Cap For 2026 Residential Solar Grants

PVTIME – Ireland’s Sustainable Energy Authority (SEAI) has officially confirmed the terms of its 2026 residential solar PV grant scheme, retaining the maximum payout at €1,800.

The policy uses a stepwise calculation method to suit households with different installation sizes, offering €700/kWp for the first 2kWp and €200/kWp for installations between 2 and 4kWp. A household installing a 2.5kWp system, for example, would receive €1,400 for the initial 2 kWp, plus €100 for the additional 0.5kWp, totalling €1,500.

Eligibility covers residential properties owned by private landlords, management companies, and approved housing bodies (AHBs). Key requirements include a valid Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN), occupancy, and construction before 2021, and duplicate claims for the same MPRN are not permitted. The SEAI stresses that using registered installers, adhering to standard construction practices, and submitting complete documentation are essential for successful grant payment.

Applicants must secure grant approval before starting work and complete installation within eight months, using only SEAI-registered installers. There are two application routes: self-applicants receive the grant directly after submitting post-completion documents, while households undertaking multiple energy upgrades can use a one-stop service, in which professional agencies handle the entire process and the grant is deducted from the upfront costs.

According to an SEAI spokesperson, the microgeneration support scheme lowers household investment barriers through financial incentives and ensures project quality via regulated installation standards. This stable policy provides clear certainty for investors, with calculations showing that a 4kWp system can recoup costs in five to seven years after receiving the grant. Long-term benefits include energy self-sufficiency and reduced carbon emissions, and the scheme is set to further advance Ireland’s renewable energy targets.
