PVTIME – Germany’s renewable energy sector has received a major boost following the European Commission’s approval of a €3 billion national aid package for clean technology manufacturing. The Commission ruled that the scheme was necessary, appropriate and proportionate for accelerating the EU’s net-zero transition, aligning it with the Clean Industrial Deal.

Approved under the CISAF, the scheme will provide financial support for investments in expanding the capacity of manufacturing net-zero technologies and key components, including solar, wind, batteries, heat pumps, electrolysers, CCUS, and new or recycled critical raw materials needed for their production.
The aid will take the form of grants, tax incentives, interest subsidies on new loans, or new loan guarantees, and will be valid until 31 December 2030. The Commission has previously approved a €1.5 billion Italian clean technology manufacturing aid scheme under the CISAF. Meanwhile, the EU’s Clean Industrial Deal aims to mobilise over €100 billion for clean technology manufacturing across the bloc.
