PVTIME – Canadian Solar Inc. (688472.SH), a global leader in integrated PV and energy storage solutions, has announced the successful commencement of commercial operations for its 220MWh DC battery storage project in Mannum, South Australia.

The project is owned by Epic Energy, a leading Australian energy infrastructure developer, and was developed by Recurrent Energy, a Canadian Solar subsidiary. It was delivered by Canadian Solar’s energy storage arm, e-STORAGE, which acted as the EPC contractor. e-STORAGE ensured the project’s smooth delivery by collaborating closely with its experienced local team and the power plant facilities contractor, Consolidated Power Projects (CPP). This strengthened e-STORAGE’s track record and execution capabilities in Australia’s large-scale energy storage market. The project uses e-STORAGE’s proprietary SolBank energy storage system to guarantee safe, reliable, high-efficiency operation. Under a signed long-term service agreement, e-STORAGE will also provide ongoing operation and maintenance support, demonstrating its dedication to providing long-term value to clients.
Paired with a 46MW PV plant at the same site, the Mannum project acts as a model for integrated solar-storage systems. Its successful launch marks a key milestone in boosting grid stability across South Australia and will drive progress towards the state’s strategic goal of achieving 100% renewable energy generation by 2027. Stephen Mudge, Interim Co-CEO of Epic Energy, said that commissioning the grid-scale Mannum battery storage project was a crucial step in Epic Energy’s work to safeguard South Australia’s energy security. He thanked all internal and external partners for their efforts in delivering the complex project.
Colin Parkin, President of e-STORAGE, expressed pride in supporting Epic Energy in enhancing South Australia’s grid resilience and accelerating the clean energy transition. He also mentioned that e-STORAGE currently has over 1.8GWh of battery storage projects under construction in Australia, reinforcing its position as a leading local provider of energy storage products and solutions.
