1.14 GWh! Actis Completes Acquisition of Polish BESS Portfolio from DTEK-owned DRI

PVTIME – Actis, a global sustainable infrastructure investor, has finalised the purchase of a significant battery energy storage portfolio in Poland from DRI, the European renewable energy subsidiary of Ukrainian energy group DTEK. With a total power capacity of 244MW and an energy volume of 1,141MWh, the transaction is one of the largest BESS asset takeovers in Central and Eastern Europe so far this year.

All assets within the acquired portfolio hold long-term 17-year Polish capacity-market contracts, which are scheduled to come into force from 2027 onwards. These contractual arrangements provide predictable revenue streams and substantially reduce the risk of the battery assets for the new owner. The acquisition feeds directly into Actis’ recently established Polish renewable energy platform, which has an overall capacity build-out target of up to 1.5GW across wind, solar, and battery storage installations.

This deal substantially enlarges Actis’ footprint in Europe’s utility-scale battery storage market. It reinforces the investor’s strategic expansion into flexible energy assets as regional markets in Central and Eastern Europe strive to increase storage capacity in order to balance the growing proportion of intermittent wind and solar generation. Once operational, the acquired projects will deliver critical grid-balancing services, helping to stabilise Poland’s power system amid ongoing coal-fired plant retirements.

For DRI, the divestment is part of its portfolio rotation strategy, enabling the company to recycle capital and redirect resources towards new development opportunities across the wider European renewable energy landscape. While Actis will take ownership of the assets, the technical delivery and construction-related workflows for the battery sites will continue to meet the capacity-market compliance deadlines.
