PVTIME – The PV giant LONGi has announced a new world record for crystalline silicon solar cell conversion efficiency of 28.29%. This milestone was independently verified by the Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin (ISFH) in Germany, and was officially announced at an event in Europe on 24 September 2026.

This is the third time this year that LONGi has set a new global benchmark for crystalline silicon cell efficiency. This record-breaking performance was achieved using LONGi’s proprietary Hybrid Interdigitated Back-Contact (HIBC) technology, which combines the strengths of various standard cell designs to provide significant improvements in terms of design, materials and production processes.
Alongside the announcement of the cell efficiency, LONGi unveiled modules exceeding 700W, built on the HIBC platform. This simultaneous launch confirms that the technology has successfully transitioned from laboratory research to commercial mass production.
