LONGi Commissions First Finnish Energy Storage Project

PVTIME – LONGi has successfully commissioned its first energy storage project in Finland. Situated at Söderby Solpark, the largest solar park on the Åland Islands, it is a key demonstration of integrated solar-storage applications in frigid Nordic climates and high-latitude environments. Designed specifically for frigid Nordic climates and high-latitude environments, the project is a key demonstration of integrated solar-storage applications in such regions and addresses the unique operational needs of island power grids.

The LONGi energy storage system provides a fast response to frequency changes and supports the grid, enhancing the resilience of the Åland power network during fluctuations. It also features black-start capability, enabling swift power restoration after outages and providing critical emergency protection for island electricity security.

LONGi provided a fully integrated solution, including core storage equipment and system-level control, supported by its own LONGi ONE full-stack system. Deep protocol integration across five subsystems eliminates compatibility losses and communication delays, ensuring rapid and precise responses to solar output fluctuations.

Millisecond-level frequency regulation and intelligent charge-discharge management optimise the park’s grid-connected power output, enhancing clean energy compatibility and utilisation efficiency. This project demonstrates LONGi’s in-depth knowledge of the Nordic market, where the need for strict frequency stability and flexibility is driving the demand for solar-storage hybrid solutions.

Leveraging its independent full-stack R&D and system-level delivery capabilities, LONGi’s solution meets the technical standards required for high levels of renewable energy penetration in the Nordic markets. This valuable experience will be instrumental in expanding into other high-latitude regions around the world. The company will continue to drive energy storage innovation through LONGi ONE, refine its global strategy and deliver competitive solutions to support the global transition to net zero.
