Germany added 543 MW of new photovoltaic (PV) capacity in July 2012, slightly less than the 572 MW added in July 2011. Figures published by Germany’s federal network agency Bundesnetzagentur reveal that more than 4.9 GW of PV capacity has been registered so far in Germany this year, a new record. Germany registered 2.3 GW of PV in the same seven-month period last year and 4.5 GW in the same period in 2010. In early summer, the German government announced it will close its current feed-in-tariff (FIT) scheme once the country’s installed PV capacity reaches 52 GW. After that, Germany will change to a new pricing scheme, the details of which have not been released. Germany currently has well over 29 GW of installed PV capacity. Source: Bundesnetzagentur;
