PVTIME – Tech giant Meta has announced a new collaboration with ENGIE North America, agreeing an additional solar power purchase agreement (PPA) in Texas. This deal will expand their existing four projects to over 1.3GW, with the new 600MW capacity coming from a new ENGIE solar facility due to launch in 2027. This facility will supply 100% clean energy to Meta’s US data centres.

All of the new renewable energy will come from ENGIE’s Swenson Ranch Solar Project in Stonewall County, which is located southeast of Lubbock in Texas. Meta will purchase all of the electricity output from this 600MW facility to secure green energy for its American data centres.
The Swenson Ranch project is expected to cost around 674 million pounds to build and will create over 350 skilled jobs during construction, boosting the local labour market. It will support Meta’s energy transition goals and stimulate growth in Texas’ renewable energy sector.
Meta’s Global Head of Energy, Urvi Parekh, praised the collaboration, saying that the firm was thrilled to add 600MW of solar power to the grid and expand its partnership with ENGIE to 1.3GW. She emphasised that this ongoing collaboration is crucial to Meta’s objective of offsetting 100% of its electricity consumption with clean, renewable energy, thereby enhancing the sustainability of its data centres.
