5GW! Turkey’s Elin Energy to Build Solar Cell Factory, Targeting 3GW Exports to US

PVTIME – Turkish solar manufacturer Elin Energy has announced a $400 million investment in a new manufacturing facility in Sivas, central Turkey. Scheduled to open in Q4 2026, the plant will produce semiconductor components and photovoltaic solar cells to meet growing domestic demand while positioning Turkey as a major exporter to the US market.

With a production capacity of 5GW, the plant will supply 2GW to Turkey’s solar market, which currently relies on imports for 70% of its cell needs, and earmark 3GW for export to the US. This plant is expected to transform Turkey from a solar cell importer to a net exporter within three to four years, stated by Elin Energy, which plans to announce a strategic technology partnership to improve competitiveness.

The project is in line with Turkey’s goal of building a self-sufficient renewable energy supply chain and capitalising on US demand under initiatives such as the Inflation Reduction Act. By targeting both domestic energy security and export growth, Elin Energy aims to solidify Turkey’s role in the global solar value chain.
