PVTIME – Data centre operator DayOne has signed a 21-year agreement with Malaysia’s national utility company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), to secure up to 500 MW of solar power. The energy will be supplied by TNB’s renewables subsidiary and will exclusively power DayOne’s 120MW combined data centre capacity in Johor’s Nusajaya and Kampas Tech Parks.

This partnership is the first bilateral power purchase agreement under Malaysia’s Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), which was launched in September 2024 to enable enterprises to procure renewable power directly. Based on a 2024 Power Service Agreement, this deal sets a pivotal benchmark for the country’s energy transition.
Formerly the international arm of the Chinese company GDS, DayOne was established in 2022 and spun off following a Series B funding round earlier this year. It currently operates 480 MW of data centre capacity across the Asia-Pacific region (APAC), with a further 590 MW planned for Hong Kong, Singapore and Southeast Asia, including a new facility in Thailand.
This collaboration provides green energy for DayOne’s operations and drives Malaysia’s digital infrastructure and renewable energy goals, blending sustainability with growth in the regional data economy.
