404MW! LONGi Secures BC Deal with EDF for UK Longfield Solar Project

PVTIME – LONGi the PV giant has signed a significant collaboration agreement with EDF Power Solutions, a subsidiary of the French EDF Group, to supply 404MW of its high-efficiency Hi-MO 9 BC modules for the Longfield solar project in the UK. As the largest photovoltaic plant EDF has built in the UK to date, this partnership marks a key milestone in Britain’s energy transition, as well as being a significant step for LONGi’s BC technology in terms of scaling up for large-scale ground-mounted applications globally.

EDF Power Solutions, a global leader in energy services and independent power generation, has extensive experience in renewable project development, construction, and operation, and is known for its rigorous technical standards and strong project management. Amid high UK labour costs and intense sensitivity to the levelised cost of electricity over the lifecycle, EDF Power Solutions conducted thorough technical evaluations, BOS cost calculations, LCOE comparisons, and system simulations. LONGi’s BC modules demonstrated superior unit efficiency, lower BOS costs, and higher wattage output, securing the partnership through proven strong power generation returns and LCOE control.

The UK’s temperate maritime climate brings cloudiness, humidity, scattered sunlight, and frequent weather changes, creating a low-irradiance, high-humidity environment with significant temperature fluctuations. These conditions demand robust power generation capacity and long-term reliability from photovoltaic modules. LONGi’s Hi-MO 9 modules feature HPBC 2.0 technology and an excellent temperature coefficient of -0.26%/°C, making them well suited to the UK’s challenging conditions and ensuring efficient, reliable power output throughout the project’s lifecycle.

Lucille Zylberblatt, Vice President of Procurement at EDF Power Solutions, highlighted LONGi’s deep expertise in photovoltaic innovation, noting the clear advantages of its BC technology in terms of power generation and reliability, and the real value this delivers in applications. She expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration, looking forward to expanding partnerships with LONGi on future global projects.

Cui Meng, President of LONGi’s Utility Scale Business in Europe, stated that EDF’s selection of LONGi’s BC modules highlights the strong, comprehensive performance and full lifecycle value of the Hi-MO 9. He added that integrating BC technology with energy storage would strengthen LONGi’s technical position in the large-scale European market and reinforce the company’s commitment to leading the region’s green energy transition through safety, reliability, and sustainable value.

The two parties also discussed the EU’s Net Zero Industry Act and related initiatives. Looking ahead, LONGi will continue to leverage technological innovation and high-value products to support EDF and other global partners in achieving net-zero goals, driving regional energy transitions, and promoting the high-quality development of the energy sector, with the aim of building a more sustainable, green energy future.
