34.02%! Huasun Solar Sets Solar Cell Efficiency Record & Industrial Breakthrough

PVTIME – Huasun Solar has achieved two significant breakthroughs in crystalline silicon heterojunction/perovskite tandem solar cell technology: a laboratory-scale efficiency record of 34.02%, and a production-line breakthrough of 29.01%.

In laboratory tests, the team at Huasun Solar cut interface non-radiative recombination losses by introducing an innovative dual passivation strategy that combines physical field effects and chemical bonds. This increased the efficiency of small (1 cm²) tandem cells to 34.02%, placing the technology among the world’s most advanced.

For industrial application, the company’s self-designed production line has achieved a 29.01% efficiency rating for large-size (210 HP) tandem cells, which is nearly four percentage points higher than that of single-crystalline silicon cells. This outcome follows Huasun Solar’s development of ‘large textured film innovative deposition technology’: the team employed mass-producible, large-area coating techniques to address issues associated with applying perovskite materials to industrial-grade, crystalline silicon pyramids, such as uneven texture and inconsistent dimensions. An organic stabiliser strategy also addressed industry issues with deposition uniformity and environmental adaptability for large-size devices.

New interface transport layer materials have further improved the reliability and process compatibility of the tandem cells, accelerating their transition from laboratory development to large-scale production.

Tandem cells are widely viewed as the key to breaking the efficiency limits of crystalline silicon and shaping the next generation of photovoltaic technology. Huasun Solar has strengthened its position in high-efficiency heterojunction technology by optimising five core areas: materials, processes, equipment, devices and products. The company has succeeded in balancing efficiency, reliability and cost. Its use of scalable, mass-production techniques for tandem cells cements its position as a leader in the field.
