PVTIME – Elon Musk announced on X that Starlink will transport 300–500GW of solar modules to space annually to power AI computing, with space-based AI capacity set to exceed the US’s current total within two years. This announcement follows a three-hour in-depth interview in which Musk outlined his groundbreaking views on energy, technology, and the future, as well as his three-step plan for achieving energy freedom for humanity.

Emphasising that the Sun accounts for 99.8% of the solar system’s mass, Musk dismissed the need for Earth-based nuclear fusion, given the free giant nuclear reactor 93 million miles away.
His first step is to double the efficiency of the existing grid using Tesla’s Megapack batteries to store surplus night-time power for daytime peaks, thereby boosting throughput without the need for new power stations. Secondly, he proposes launching solar AI satellites into space, where 24-hour sunlight would maximise efficiency. This would require 8,000 launches, at a rate of one per hour for a year. The third step is to establish a lunar satellite factory that will manufacture satellites from local materials for large-scale solar energy capture. Direct orbital deployment of these satellites will mark what Musk calls humanity’s true civilisational upgrade.
During his conversation with Nikhil Kamat, Musk revealed that X, formerly Twitter, is the leading platform among readers, writers, and thinkers, boasting 600 million monthly users. While text is its current strength, he predicts that most future internet interactions will be real-time AI video. He explained that he acquired Twitter in order to correct its left-leaning bias and restore neutrality. He criticised the dopamine-focused video feeds, saying that they lack substance and risk causing ‘brain rot’. X’s goal is to become a collective consciousness for humanity, uniting global ideas through automatic translation.
Musk also explored the meaning of life and the simulation theory, urging humanity to expand its consciousness in order to better understand the universe. He forecasts that work will become optional within 20 years due to AI and robotics, with society transitioning to a universal high income. He added that traditional currency will disappear and energy will become the true currency, while AI will drive deflation. He stressed that AI development must prioritise truth, beauty and curiosity in order to avoid compelling it to lie. He also shared his vision for Starlink, his love for his family and his history, and encouraged entrepreneurs to produce more than they consume. He suggested that robot doctors would surpass human doctors within three years and questioned the value of medical school.
