PVTIME – Hainan Drinda New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., a major player in the photovoltaic industry, has announced a significant milestone in its global expansion strategy. Its subsidiary, Jietai New Energy Investment (HK) Limited, has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Schmid Pekintaş Energy, a leading new energy technology enterprise based in Turkey. The two companies will jointly establish a cutting-edge 2GW high-efficiency photovoltaic cell production base in Turkey.
Under the terms of this landmark agreement, Drinda and Schmid Pekintaş Energy will combine their core competencies. They plan to co-invest in constructing a high-efficiency PV cell production base, with the first phase earmarked for an annual production capacity of 2GW. This initiative will see the full integration of Drinda’s cutting-edge n-type high-efficiency battery technology. Leveraging Drinda’s extensive technical expertise and robust manufacturing systems in the PV sector, the project aims to address the growing demand for high-performance, reliable PV cells in Turkey and the wider global market.
Schmid Pekintaş Energy is a major player in the Turkish and European solar energy sectors. It was founded in 2014 by the Turkish construction giant Pekintaş Holding and the German PV technology pioneer Schmid Group. With over a decade of experience in high-efficiency solar modules and integrated solutions, Schmid Pekintaş Energy is well-positioned to contribute significantly to this partnership.
Turkey, with its unique geographical location straddling Europe and Asia, is rapidly emerging as a crucial nexus connecting international capital with downstream markets. Despite having substantial PV module production capacity of over 15GW — the highest in Europe — the country faces a notable shortfall in the PV cell segment. This is due to the high technological barriers in PV cell manufacturing, along with the stringent requirements.
