PVTIME – Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar has confirmed that Saudi energy conglomerate ACWA Power is set to finalise an agreement with Turkey to develop two 1GW solar plants in the provinces of Karaman and Sivas. Spanning 8,816 sq km in central-southern Karaman and 28,129 sq km in eastern Anatolia’s Sivas, the projects leverage the regions’ exceptional solar irradiance levels.

While advancing the 2GW initiative, officials are also exploring the possibility of expanding renewables capacity by 3GW, with prior reports indicating that total investments could reach $5 billion. ACWA’s proven ability to deliver cost-efficient energy solutions, as evidenced by Turkey’s current low power tariff of $0.0325/kWh, has fuelled expectations of new pricing benchmarks.
This partnership will inject advanced technology and capital into Turkey’s green energy programme and establish a strategic template for collaboration in the post-fossil fuel era. The deal highlights Turkey’s shift towards renewable energy and ACWA’s role as a leading player in global decarbonisation efforts, setting an example for other emerging markets seeking to transition to sustainable energy sources.
