PVTIME – Indian solar manufacturer Waaree Energies has officially opened its new 1.8GW solar module production facility in Chikhli, Gujarat. This increases the company’s total annual solar module manufacturing capacity to 16.8GW, strengthening its position in India’s expanding solar manufacturing sector.

Waaree Energies currently operates a 5.4GW solar cell production line and is pressing ahead with expansions across its upstream and downstream supply chains. The company has outlined ambitious long-term targets: by the end of the 2027 financial year, it plans to increase its annual solar module capacity to 25.7GW and its solar cell capacity to 15.4GW. It also intends to establish an annual ingot and wafer production capacity of 10GW.
Beyond its core solar operations, Waaree Energies is expanding into new complementary energy segments. In development are a 3.5GWh lithium-ion battery and energy storage system production line, a 3GW solar inverter factory and 300MW electrolyser units. These electrolyser units will support green hydrogen projects, contributing to the shift towards a cleaner, more diversified energy structure.
The launch of the new Chikhli plant and the company’s wider expansion plans demonstrate Waaree Energies’ confidence in India’s renewable energy market and will provide a significant boost to the country’s green energy development efforts.
