PVTIME – Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar, has launched its Papago Energy Storage Centre in Maricopa County, Arizona, and the 1.2 GWh facility is now fully operational. One of the state’s largest independent energy storage systems, it operates alongside the nearby 150 MW Papago Solar Plant to deliver power — enough to supply around 72,000 homes during peak usage times.

The project’s commercial rollout is part of a broader effort to strengthen Arizona’s renewable energy infrastructure. Recurrent Energy has also announced plans for two more projects: the Desert Bloom Storage project and Papago Solar Phase II. Both are set to connect to the grid by 2026. These additions will further strengthen the state’s capacity to integrate clean energy sources.
By pairing solar generation with large-scale storage, the Papago centre and its upcoming counterparts are designed to address demand fluctuations, ensuring a steady flow of renewable power. This move aligns with Arizona’s efforts to transition to more sustainable energy solutions, reinforcing its position as a hub for clean energy innovation.
