Trina Solar to Launch PV Production Base in Xining City to Expand Its Production Capacity

PVTIME – Trina Solar (688599.SH), a global leading provider for photovoltaic module and smart energy solutions, announced on June 17 to invest in a PV production base in Xining Cit, to expand it production capacity of industrial silicon, high-purity silicon, solar cell and module, and relevant materials.

Trina’s Xining PV base will be initiated by new holding company in the Economic and Technological Development Zone in Xining City, Qinghai Province, China. Trina has signed an Investment Cooperation Agreement with local government and institutions for this PV production project covers the whole industrial chain, which will be started in 2022 and completed by the end of 2025.

For the first phase of the project, Trina plans to complete production lines for industrial silicon (100,000 MT annually), high-purity polysilicon (50,000 MT annually), monocrystalline silicon (20 GW annually), silicon slices (5 GW annually), solar cells (5 GW annually), solar modules (5 GW annually), and materials (7.5 GW annually), by the end of 2023.

And the second phase is planned to complete production lines for industrial silicon (200,000 MT annually), high-purity polysilicon (100,000 MT annually), monocrystalline silicon (15 GW annually), silicon slices (5 GW annually), solar cells (5 GW annually), solar modules (5 GW annually), and materials (7.5 GW annually), by the end of 2025.

The production capacity and timeline of each part will be adjusted according to the market, Trina stated, and the funds will be arranged from debt and equity.

The Xining PV production base is expected to enhance the competitive position of Trina Solar’s n type solar cells with the support of local government. Trina would like to optimize the structure of its products to meet the demands of the whole industrial chain with its advanced technology and mass production capacity.
