Three Gorges Group: 35.3 Billion kWh Wind and Solar Power Generation in 2021

PVTIME – On January 14, the Three Gorges Group announced that in 2021, its renewable energy power generation has exceed 340 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 9.5%, ranking first in the world. It is estimated that 340 billion kWh of clean electricity is equal to about 100 million MT of standard coal, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 280 million MT.

Renewable energy includes wind energy, solar energy, hydro energy, biomass energy, geothermal energy and other non-fossil energy. In 2021, the Three Gorges Group’s domestic hydropower generation was about 275.8 billion kWh, domestic wind and solar power generation was about 35.3 billion kWh, and other renewable energy generation reached 31.2 billion kWh. Up to date, the installed capacity of the Three Gorges Group’s renewable energy has exceeded 100 million kilowatts, accounting for about one-tenth of installed capacity of renewable energy in China, of which the installed capacity of hydropower accounts for nearly 70%. What is more, onshore “scenery” new energy plants located in Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Northwest China and other provinces and regions have been formed by Three Gorges as well.

In 2021, China’s new energy industry developed rapidly. The installed capacity of offshore wind power has surpassed the UK for the first time, ranking first in the world. The installed capacity of renewable energy including hydropower has exceeded 1 billion kilowatts for the first time. Furthermore, it is the first time that China’s new energy power generation be more than one trillion kilowatt hours.
