The expected annual production of Madre Vieja will be about 48.68 GWh.
Enel Green Power amounts to a total investment of 130 million dollars in solar projects in Panama
Once this project is completed, the company will operate more than 430 MW of renewable energy in the country while contributing to strengthening its energy matrix.
PVTIME - Enel Green Power Panamá (“EGPP”) began the construction of Madre Vieja, a 30.88 MW photovoltaic energy project that will increase its renewable energy capacity in the country. The 48.68 GWh expected annual production of the plant will contribute to the growth of Panama's energy matrix and the energy transition of the entire region, while avoiding the emission of 12,574 tons of CO2 per year.

Madre Vieja is located in the province of Chiriquí, about 3 km from the other solar projects that Enel Green Power has in operation in this area (Caldera 5 MW and Sol de David 8 MW). It bears the name of the community where it will be built and corresponds to the 2nd stage of the project that includes Jagüito (13 MW) and Esperanza (26 MW), which began construction in 2020 in the provinces of Coclé and Chiriquí, respectively.
The plant will comprise 68,220 solar panels of 455W each, occupy a maximum area of 33Has, and contain 754 assembly structures, internal roads. In addition, it will have a 34.5kV connection line that will extend about 4km from Madre Vieja to the Progreso Substation, owned by the Electric Transmission Company of Panama (ETESA).
Including Madre Vieja, Jagüito and Esperanza, Enel Green Power combines a total investment of 130 million dollars in solar projects in Panama and consolidates its growth and leadership in the local generation market. The company was the pioneer in photovoltaic generation in the country with the construction of the PV Chiriquí plant in 2015 and currently maintains its position as the largest generator in the country in this technology, with an installed capacity of 62 MW.
Reinforcing its position as the largest private renewable energy operator in the world, the company promotes Panama to the group of countries that contribute with new renewable generation to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Madre Vieja contemplates a construction period of eight months, including the start of energy injection into the grid in December 2021 and the start of commercial operation in February 2022.
